The average Beijing citizen spent 348 yuan (43 U.S. dollars) buying flowers in 2005, an increase of 38 yuan from 2004, according to a survey by the Beijing Municipal Rural Work Committee. Flower sales are expected to pass 4 billion yuan in 2005 -- including 1.2 billion from individual residents for personal use, an increase of nearly 200 million yuan from 2004, according to a survey on the flower and plant market in Beijing. Generally, four out of every five citizens have the desire to buy flowers and also will do so actually, the survey says. Roses, lilies and carnations are the three favorites for flower buyers, taking up 40 percent of the total flower sales, the survey says. Some 54.3 percent of the surveyed citizens say they buy flowers for room decorations, 39 percent for hobbies, and 33.5 percent for festival celebrations. Citizens with higher incomes are more inclined to buy flowers, the survey says. |
