Tibetan people put on splendid garments and celebrated the New Year by holding "Qiema", a two-tier rectangular wooden box containing roasted barley and food prepared with butter, parched barley meal and sugar, and the wine of qingkebarleya highland barley. "Zaxideleg", a greeting of the Tibetan language meaning "good luck to you", was frequently heard in high streets and back lanes.
