Orphaned and disabled students of the Lhasa Caiquan Welfare School dance to celebrate the New Year's Day of the Tibetan ethnic group in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, Feb. 28, 2006. The region was immersed in joyful atmosphere on Feb. 28, the first day of the Tibetan New Year, "the Year of the Fire Dog". Tibetan people put on splendid garments and celebrated the New Year by holding "Qiema", a two-tier rectangular wooden box containing roasted barley and food prepared with butter, parched barley meal and sugar, and the wine of qingkebarleya highland barley. "Zaxideleg", a greeting of the Tibetan language meaning "good luck to you", was frequently heard in high streets and back lanes. The New Year is one of the Tibetan ethnic group's most important festivals, which enjoys a history of thousands of years. [Xinhua Photo]
