Inner Mongolia Agricultural University (IMAU) was established in 1952. Over the past 50 years, IMAU has initiated a multi-level management system. Its primary objective is focused on undergraduate studies. Nevertheless, IMAU has been paying profound attention to postgraduate, higher vocational and adult educational programs. IMAU is a multi-discipline university with 8 fields of study. They are Agronomy, Science, Engineering, Economics, Management, Social Sciences and Education. IMAU has succeeded in cultivating more than 70,000 skilled talents in diverse fields of study. Currently, IMAU has 19 colleges including the College of Animal Science and Medicine, a Department for Physical Education and an Advanced Educational Research Center, 2 ministry-level key laboratories, one key laboratory of the State Bureau of Forestry, 3 provincial laboratories, one state-level open field observation station, 3 regional engineering technology research centers. There is also a state-level key discipline, one key discipline of the Ministry of Agriculture, 3 key disciplines of the State Bureau of Forestry and 8 regional key disciplines. IMAU has 6 first-level and 33 second-level disciplines, which are authorized to grant doctorate degrees. IMAU has established 2 moving scientific research stations for post-doctorate research. It also has 72 second-level disciplines that confer master degrees. IMAU offers 55 undergraduate programs. Thirteen of them are offered in both Mongolian and Chinese languages. Currently, the number of enrolled students is approximately 23,800. Among them, there are 1,883 master and doctorate students. Its teaching staff has reached 1,210 and is composed of 187 professors, 404 associate professors, 76 doctorate degree supervisors and 365 master degree advisors. In the last 5 years, IMAU has undertaken 489 state, as well as provincial, science and technology programs. The total funds, for scientific research programs, amounted to 115 million RMB. The number of programs undertaken by IMAU and funded by the State Natural Science Fund, ranked number 6 among all colleges and universities of agriculture and forestry. IMAU has acquired scientific research achievements in 178 programs and provincial ¡°Technological Advancement ¡±awards in 31 programs, 5 of which are first-class awards. All these have provided extensive technological support and service for the economic construction, ecology and natural forest protection, reforesting the cultivated land, prohibiting herding and encouraging yard-feeding among other developments in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The government of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region once awarded ¡°Excellent collectivity that had made great contribution in developing our region through technological education¡± to IMAU. IMAU consists of three campuses, with a total area of 911.78 hectares. The compound areas of buildings and apartments are approximately 700,000 m2. There are four standard ground track fields. The library has a building area of about 30,000 m2, with a collection of 1,310,000 books. The value of the teaching instruments and equipments totals 147 million RMB. IMAU has established broad academic ties with some 30 universities in USA, Canada, UK, France, Australia, Japan, Russia and the Republic of Mongolia among other nations. IMAU has collaborative programs with foreign educational institutions. Up to now, outstanding achievements have been made in teaching, scientific research, cultural exchange and joint programs. |
